Patients registered in Guildford and Waverley can now book GP appointments beyond their usual practice hours.
Appointments are available on weekday evenings between 6pm and 8pm, on Saturdays between 8am and 4pm, and on Sundays 8am until 1pm.
The service began in August 2019 and provides well over a hundred hours of GP, nurse and healthcare assistant time every week, including Saturdays and Sundays. Over 15,000 patients have already been seen!
To book in, patients simply call their usual practice and ask for Procare improved access appointments. Currently GP appointments take place virtually via video or telephone and nurse appointments are available face to face at selected GP practices.
Patients can book these appointments no matter which local GP practice they are registered with. Services available include standard GP appointments, dressings, phlebotomy and asthma reviews. More services will be added as we continue to develop.
The clinics are already filling almost to capacity, and there has been excellent feedback from patients who appreciate the convenience and shorter waiting times.
Patients should book as they normally would with their usual practice and the appointments will be offered wherever they are available.
Information sharing agreements are in place to ensure that practice records are available to the GP who is handling the appointment, giving a safe and innovative service. The record of the clinic appointment will also be available to the patients' own GP. We also have the ability to order blood tests, x-ray, ultrasound, prescribe electronically and can make referrals to the hospital.
The only way to book an extended access appointment is to book through a patient's own GP practice. Procare service leads are Shabita Sumaraj, General Manager and Dr Abs Tangri, GP Clinical Lead.
